Caldwell Parish Church (1889) in Uplawmoor, East Renfrewshire linked on 29 January 2009 with Dunlop Church in East Ayrshire to form a single charge and transferred to the Presbytery of Irvine and Kilmarnock from the Presbytery of Greenock and Paisley.
Uplawmoor is 5 miles from Dunlop and Barrhead, 14 miles from Glasgow and 12 miles from Kilmarnock. It is a small rural village surrounded by many live stock farms. It benefits from an excellent primary school, local Inn, Library, well equipped children’s playground, playing field with tennis courts and exercise equipment.
On 1st September 2023 following re-organisation of the Scottish Presbyteries, the two churches joined together in a formal Union to be known as Caldwell and Dunlop Parish Church. Uplawmoor is 5 miles from Dunlop and Barrhead, 14 miles from Glasgow and 12 miles from Kilmarnock.
There are around 240 members and adherents on the roll with an active Choir, Messy Church and Community Calendar.
The church was built in 1889 by the owners of the Caldwell Estates, the Mure family. Prior to this building, a ‘tin church’ or hut was located here and served as a Missionary Church in the 30 years prior to the 1889 building. The present church has sandstone walls and a slate roof, and is in good condition and in full ecclesiastical use.
Shown below is the bell from the original church with enlarged inscription. Also shown is a glass sculpture formed and donated by local artist, the late Mr Ralph Cowen in celebration of the church’s centenary in 1989.
Dunlop is a rural village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. A christian church has been established here since the 12th century. Our present church site has been in use for over 400 years.
In 2010 we were linked with Caldwell Parish Church, Uplawmoor. This has been a very happy and friendly linkage with both churches gaining friendship and support.
